Design Manager

Role Purpose:

Incumbent will be responsible to manage the design coordination and detailing of projects from tender stage, through to the completion of the construction phase and submission of as-built documents. To utilize construction knowledge and experience, and use latest software and technologies to help deliver quality detailing of design, minimize design clashes of the different disciplines in construction, in an efficient and timely manner.

Key Task and Responsibilities:

1. Managing Preparation and Production of Design documents: Interrogation of enquiry/tender documents, coordination of technical support required from the estimating team during tender preparations and production of design estimates. Liaison with other internal departments during these early stages for timely and quality production of Technical Proposal documents. Review of subcontractor design proposals.

2. Monitoring Design Progress: Oversee design-related matters on construction projects and ensure that the multi-disciplinary teams involved in the project work together smoothly and that everything is delivered on time and within budget. Apply value engineering principles to ensure best value for all parties and ensure an effective construction phase by applying an understanding of site management practices, risks, costs and co-ordination. Establishing and maintaining effective methods of communication between the teams involved in design work throughout the project. Coordinate the provision of technical assistance to project delivery teams during the construction, installation and commissioning phases of projects. Ensuring engineering change is effectively managed and reported to the Commercial team.

3. Technology: Implement the use of latest technologies such as BIM modeling and Digitial Twins for quality and efficient delivery of construction projects, and ease of decision making by our Clients.

4. Risk Management: Assessing, mitigating and managing risks connected with design and ensuring designs and design work meets health and safety legislation, sustainable building and other relevant standards. Raise potential claims due to revision of drawings.

5. Stakeholder Management: Support the Project Team, and when needed, attend or lead meetings with the Consultants and/or Clients to discuss the design issues and concerns on the project to achieve a best-in-class finished construction.

6. Continuous Improvement: Lead through various sustainable process improvements to drive (from radical to continuous) improvements in design outputs. Â Identification and adoption/implementation of software packages to improve the efficiency of the design development process.

7. Team Leadership: Manage design team by Leading, motivating and developing to achieve specific targets of the business as per the best-in-class quality design standards and principles. Provide leadership and represent a positive, enthusiastic role model to create a positive place to work. Â

8. Training: Create and set training manuals for design and deliver training to staff from time to time to raise the performance and standards of the team.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

Diploma/Degree in either Architecture or Building Construction.
15+ years of industry experience.
Knowledge of Construction, material, Finishing, snagging & Structural work. Design skills and knowledge
Should be Influencing, Negotiating & Customer Focussed
Expert in Planning, Organizing, Scheduling & Coordinating
Should be good in Decision Making, Problem Solving & Time Management.
Fluent in English – written, Oral & Presentation.
Knowledge of engineering science and technology
